| The two simple
graphs below of the percentage and
numerical distribution of United States population
among the states are not intended to serve as detailed demographic analysis,
for which other available research resources are
listed below. They are intended to help the
executives we serve to quickly and easily visualize the relative population
of states within any region which may be of interest for capital investment
project planning. Refer to current U.S.
Census data for more reliable or detailed data analysis.
If you find this information to be helpful, or have
suggestions for improvement, please let us know. |
As a global
service, some of the basic US population distribution patterns may be less
intuitive to international business executives who are considering expansion
into North America. These graphics just make it easy to
recognize very basic demographic patterns quickly.
Refer also to our
analysis of capital investment project activity
by state, and the distribution of
regional and state interests among visitors to this website, as well as
our analysis of economic development lead
generation costs.
Our April 2006 newsletter
(4 pages with graphs) summarizes this research and analysis. |
| The first
graph shows the population by state as a percentage of the US national
total, which in 2001 was roughly 285 million according to the data we used
for this chart. More recent census data may show
minor variances from demographic changes between the states, as well as
projections of growth trends, but this should be adequate to visualize basic
national patterns. |
The second
graph is the same data presented as state population statistics.
This may help to visualize the general economic size of a
state without consideration of differences in income levels, workforce
relative to total population, or variances in per capita economic data among
states. It also makes it easy to quickly estimate the total population
in any group of states of interest. |
