We specialize in personal, independent introductions to
relevant professional service providers such as business location strategy
consultants and our many economic development contacts according to the
project interests of the executives we serve.
Our
Professional Site Selection Tour and "Meeting
Point" services also introduce site selection
professionals who can
assist communities through special research trips ("inward visits" or
familiarization tours), pre-scheduled meetings at major events, and services
designed to support their competitive benchmarking analysis, investment
promotion strategies, and marketing programs.
www.ontheshortlist.com
We can also privately coordinate executive visits to one
or more business locations in Europe (or elsewhere in the world) when
planning an investment project or seeking local business alliances.
Please
contact us to discuss our event marketing services and introductory referrals. |

Highlighting promotional relationships with
service providers This directory will selectively
highlight recent or upcoming promotional activities by area representatives
such as local familiarization tours, hospitality functions, or working
relationships which executives may want to know about when considering their
own choices of business locations and independent professional advisors.
Such promotional activities can be helpful to executives
and professional advisors who may otherwise be unfamiliar with an area or
service, or need to update their knowledge periodically. This
complements their advertising and other PR work. It also helps to
highlight areas which are actively seeking investment projects.
When used appropriately, a limited investment in such
promotional activities can be perfectly appropriate and quite helpful to the
participants, and
worth calling to the attention of executives or advisors who might be
potentially relevant participants. |
Open Disclosure : Would
you want top executives to know? We routinely receive
clever promotional invitations or gifts intended for independent location
consultants. Usually these are gifts or invitations of incidental value, like promotional
handouts to attract attention and be memorable at trade show booths, but some areas invest a
lot of money on such PR work (time, travel expenses, etc.) to try to influence the professionals who can refer
investors to their areas. In some cases, this may raise ethical
issues, or disclosure at least.
While most such PR initiatives would have little real
impact on client work by leading professionals in this niche, we believe
they should be openly disclosed both by the organizations which are
investing in such initiatives, and by any advisors who benefit by acceptance
of such promotional investments, whether directly (reimbursement of
expenses, significant gifts, or the sale of services to the organizations
involved) or indirectly (introductions to potential clients among event
participants, publicity related to their participation as in the case of
press releases or event sponsorship, etc.). There is a need for
greater transparency about such promotional spending. |
| We may know
people who should be invited to participate, and so may others. We can
offer suggestions or help to raise awareness of some promotional activities
through our own marketing work, including more than this page. By
openly sharing knowledge about promotional activities, we make it easier for
executives to reach the organizers as well as the professionals whose
participation may arouse interest. |
We don't try
to judge for others whether a promotional activity is appropriate or not.
We make such judgments for our own participation in the context of our own
working relationships and professional independence considerations. We selectively
highlight promotional activities to which we have been invited to
participate, and our participation decision or such disclosure does not
represent either endorsement or criticism of the organizers. |
| For example,
area representatives may not know all the executives or advisors who might
be appropriate to invite, while they in turn may be unaware of such
activities of potential interest, as in the case of location advisors who
already anticipate growing interest in an area by future clients, and want
to invest the necessary time to develop a closer relationship and become
more familiar with the area and the services offered. |
We openly
disclose our professional working relationships through our contact lists
and the related GUIDE Area Profiles and Service Profiles, and we believe
other independent professionals who advise executives about plans for major
investment projects should similarly disclose any working relationships,
promotional activities, or gifts received which might be perceived by client
executives as creating potential conflicts of interest. |
| From our
perspective, if it is worth investing considerable (and limited) resources
in such promotional activities on behalf of an area or service, it may be
worth disclosing the opportunity or highlighting those professionals who
have participated, so that executives will know who has developed timely
knowledge about the area. |
In the above
context, this section provides an opportunity for economic development
organizations and professional services to openly disclose such
relationships, whether directly here or through links to their own relevant
website content elsewhere. This service will make it easier for
executives to find such disclosures, but is certainly not a comprehensive
report of all such promotional activities by areas. |
|
See also our
"ad recall"
service which highlights recent advertisers,
and our "event
recall" service which highlights event sponsors, exhibitors, and
speakers, such as participants in industry trade shows or professional
association meetings. The following are selective lists, and are
not intended to be comprehensive since there are literally thousands of
investment promotion agencies worldwide. |
We also
disclose our plans to participate
in future events where area representatives, professional service
providers, and executives can easily arrange to meet us.
