President, InterTech Global Alliance
Project Director, InterTech 2004 and
Intertech2005
Phil organized the InterTech 2004 event,
October 11-12, 2004, in
County Durham, England. Details are at
www.intertech2004.com
This followed a very successful similar event in 2003.
These professional business networking events attract participants from small
and mid-sized enterprises (SME's) and service providers around
the world.
Phil also organized InterTech
2005 in Magdeburg, Germany and is planning future B2B partnering events in 2006 in
England, The Netherlands, Finland, and China. Venues in North America are
also under discussion with
potential sponsors.
InterTech events bring together entrepreneurial executives
with interests in new business alliances, joint ventures, strategic partnerships
and technology transfers. Meetings are pre-scheduled to introduce
participants to other relevant attendees according to their indicated interests.
The Partners4Technology service also provides an ongoing, online matchmaking
capability beyond the periodic events.
Partners4Technology participants and InterTech sponsors are involved in innovative
knowledge-based technologies and R&D programs, alliances, and technology commercialization
initiatives as well as business support services in fields such as:
- Digital technology and media
- Biotechnology and Life Sciences
- Medical and Healthcare
- Nanotechnology and microsystems
- Photonics
- Optics
- Software
- Engineering - automotive, mechanical, chemical
- New materials and composites
- Food and beverage processing
InterTech contacts have included organizations such as NHS
Innovations (National Health Service research, somewhat like the NIH in the
US), Regional Medical Physics, the Defence Diversification Agency, and
Regional Technology Centre North. Other relationships include the new
North East Centres of Excellence in Biotechnology (Cels), Digital Technology
(Codeworks), and Nanotechnology (CENAMPS).
Phil joined us at the
CoreNet Global Summit in Chicago,
in May 2004, and attended the AGORADA 2004 meeting (EURADA)
in the Czech Republic, May 23-25 about economic development in the
EU
enlargement regions. He is likely to attend major EURADA events
and other European business networking events relevant to his professional specialty.
He can also help US economic development agencies by arranging introductory
meetings in Europe, and has participated in the past at major trade shows
and events such as MIPIM.
VP European
Business Development
Global Direct
Investment Solutions
After more than 15 successful years leading the marketing
initiatives of a British economic development agency, including the
promotion and continued support of foreign investment and local businesses
in the area, Phil now provides independent project support services in
Europe for Global Direct Investment Solutions. He also provides
professional services to European economic development organizations with US
investment promotion interests.
He will lead the expansion of Global Direct Investment Solutions into Europe
by developing working relationships among executives at major European
companies, and their professional advisors, to assist them with business
expansion, relocation, consolidation or alliance interests anywhere in the
world. This "SICR" work among top executives includes the European
offices of major foreign investors in Europe. He
will also lead our relationships among other participants in our services
such as European economic development agencies and professional service
providers (such as corporate real estate professionals, consultants, and
others). This will involve our GUIDE services to develop and share
timely local market knowledge and project support contacts throughout
Europe, including the EU enlargement countries. Previous Experience
Director of Marketing,
County Durham Development Company
Phil led the successful marketing program of County Durham,
England for more than 15 years, with responsibility for both investment
promotion to attract new companies to the area and the work to support their
project plans and local operations. This included integration of such
investment promotion work in North America, Europe and Asia with local
business retention and expansion initiatives.
Phil worked closely with
Bruce Donnelly (President, GDI Solutions) for 5 years when Bruce
represented Northern England in the USA for investment promotion purposes.
He developed and maintained many working relationships in the
region and among executives worldwide. When he helped to establish
CDDC Ltd. in 1988, it was quite revolutionary for a British county to set up
a private sector company to operate at arms length to lead investment
promotion activities and develop a promotional strategy for local economic
development. Many creative initiatives were developed over the years
to help promote business in the County successfully.
