fDi
magazine, published by the Financial Times Group, hosted a very popular
event about investment trends in North America at the
IEDC Annual Conference
in New York. Speakers (bios below) included site
consultant Roel Spee of IBM - Plant Location
International and Paul Wright of Oxford Intelligence.
Courtney Fingar, Editor of fDi magazine (Foreign Direct Investment),
was the panel moderator. A similar expert panel presentation in Chicago
during BIO 2006 was also very popular.

The North American Location Guide will
be a quick reference tool for investors and their professional advisors.
This will have 1, 2, or 4 page presentations about business locations
and services, as well as sponsored industry sector reports. It will be
promoted in fDi magazine, at events such as MIPIM, BIO, and CoreNet, and
online throughout 2007. This will be similar to a June 2005 feature.

introduction to fDi magazine

Editor
and highlights of fDi magazine circulation
data |
|
fDi magazine is an FT Business specialty magazine for top
executives and advisors who are responsible for capital investment project
decisions. See Editor's introduction.
 |
fDi isn't just about "foreign" investment locations or
exclusively
targeted at "foreign" investors. Roughly 85% of the readers are top executives
at large companies (>500 employees). The global
C-level reach (40% North America, 40% Europe / EMEA, and 20% Asia Pacific)
is unique in this market.
The quality of fDi reflects the high standards for
independent research and useful content which top executives and
professionals expect of an FT Business publication. |

fDi hosts a similar presentation during BIO conferences, such
as BIO 2007 in Boston.

The presentations provided an overview of investment
highlights and trends in 2005 and 2006 in various industry sectors, with a
particular emphasis on the United States.
Attendees were also encouraged to participate in the
2007/2008 North American Cities of the Future competition - which is similar
to the research work which was featured in June 2005 about cities and states
in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.

Award presentations Courtney Fingar is editor of
fDi magazine, the specialist inward
investment title of the Financial Times Group. Now just over five years old,
fDi has an audited circulation of 15,000 and a readership of 45,000 --
consisting mainly of senior-level executives for the world's top companies
as well as some SMEs, location consultants, governments, legal advisers,
property consultants and investment promotion agencies.
Ms Fingar joined the Financial Times Group in November 2004, having
previously served as editor of Trade & Forfaiting Review, a monthly magazine
produced by the Ark Group in London that focused on the niche industry of
trade, export and commodities finance.
Prior to relocating to the United Kingdom in 2001, she worked in Washington,
DC, first for the National Journal Group as a writer for an online
environmental news service and later for Trade Communications International
as a reporter and editor for Global Business magazine, a 90,000-circulaton
monthly that reported on international trade and investment for a US
executive audience.
Ms Fingar has a BA in journalism from the University of Alabama in the
United States and an MSc in International and European Politics, with a
special focus on political economy and trade issues, from the University of
Edinburgh in Scotland. |
Paul Wright has worked in the world of Foreign Direct
Investment for over sixteen years. He is currently Global Director, Sales
and Marketing for Oxford Intelligence Ltd, a position that he has held since
March 2006.
His career in FDI has been predominantly with the Welsh
Development Agency (WDA). He started his career with the WDA as Country
Manager Italy, here he opened up the WDA’s office in Milan in 1995. Italy
quickly became the WDA’s leading European market for the generation of new
inward investment projects into Wales – in the late 1990’s Wales was
capturing between 60% and 100% of all UK bound Italian investment. Paul
personally sourced and negotiated these investments.
In 1998 he was promoted to the position of European Director
for the WDA – with responsibility for all of the WDA’s lead generation and
FDI marketing strategy throughout Europe together with its overseas sales
force. The main areas of activity were France, Germany, Nordics, Benelux and
Italy.
In 2001 he was again promoted to the position of Executive
Vice President Europe and North America. His overall areas of responsibility
increased and he became responsible for the marketing implementation,
strategy of the WDA’s FDI activities throughout North America and Europe.
Within three years the overall brand image of the WDA improved significantly
within North America. Throughout this period the WDA was consistently one of
Europe’s best performing development agencies.
In March 2006 Paul joined Oxford Intelligence Ltd as Global
Sales and Marketing Director. Based in the Netherlands, he now has overall
responsibility for the delivery of OI’s range of consultancy products and
services. OI’s client base is mainly the leading economic development
agencies in Western Europe, Eastern Europe, UK and many states in North
America and Canada. Its products and services are centred on Foreign Direct
Investment, focusing on cross border activities of companies moving
internationally. |
