Bulgaria and Romania seem, as of September 2006, to be on track for
accession into the EU on January 1, 2007 despite some restrictive provisions
related to concerns such as crime, corruption, judicial processes, and the
migration of workers.
Turkey also finally seems to be on the path to joining the
EU in the future, although the process will not be fast or easy, and may
involve unpredictable transitional steps. Given the size of
Turkey and economic as well as cultural differences, the final outcome remains
uncertain. The recent "No" vote on the EU constitution in France may
also become an excuse for further delays, as political resistance to EU
enlargement has grown.
As the
European Union (EU) enlargement process moves forward, this directory of
economic development organizations (EDO) in the region, also commonly
known as Investment Promotion Agencies (IPA) such as a local or regional
development agency (RDA), has been set up for the
convenience of the executives and professional advisors we serve who may
want to meet them.
It will also include
professional
service provider contacts and other information resources relevant to the
planning of foreign direct investment projects in central and eastern Europe.
The focus is to support capital investment project plans
to set up, expand, relocate, or consolidate operations or business alliances
(regional offices, R&D, manufacturing, logistics, shared services, customer
contact centers or "call centers" for client relationship management or
technology support services, etc.).
We welcome suggestions of helpful additional contacts and
sources of local market knowledge to share openly here in a consistent way
for fast and easy reference by top executives and the professional advisors
who serve them, anywhere in the world. |
Phil Eadon attended the
AGORADA 2004 event about EU enlargement in Olomouc, Czech Republic, May
23-25, 2004. See
how to contact us, below.
Phil played a key role in organizing the
InterTech events for professional networking of knowledge-based technology
companies, such as for R&D alliances for product development and
commercialization, including academic and public sector technology transfer
initiatives.
Similar
InterTech Global
Alliance events for B2B partnering are planned for other locations
in Europe, North America, and Asia in cooperation with economic development
organizations and other sponsors, typically with a focus on particular
industry clusters which are relevant to the host location. These
match-making events are sometimes integrated into relevant industry events.
Multiple sponsors encourage executives from their areas to participate.
The InterTech Global Alliance is also developing the
Partners4Technology service as an ongoing, online match-making
service for B2B partnering to complement the periodic events.
Executives don't just rely on networking events to find relevant contacts
and partners, and the economic development sponsors can often suggest
relevant introductions in their areas.
Phil is based in County Durham, northern England, and will
assist European companies with their global interests, as well as global
companies with European interests, including investment in the following EU
countries and other
locations. |
| See also
GUIDE Area Profiles and our main
European regional directory lists of contacts for use by
executives and their
professional advisors, such as
location consultants and
corporate real estate specialists. See how to
request a relevant directory listing GUIDE Area Profiles
provide executive summary presentations with more details than the GUIDE
Network Survey process, for which
responses will be published below as they are received. The Area Profile service involves a closer working relationship throughout the year
to share local knowledge in a globally consistent way, with links to a
variety of content of frequent interest to executives when planning capital
investment projects. |
See the
further explanation of this directory below.
Our
GUIDE Service Profiles describe the scope of services, specialties,
experience and capabilities of professional service providers, including
those who provide
services for economic development organizations beyond the scope of our
own work.
There are also
global directory
lists of professional service providers for reference by executives and
their advisors, as well as a
directory list of governmental organizations which may be of assistance,
and
publishers or associations related to this market. A selection of
relevant resources is also repeated below for convenient reference. |
