The Value Proposition For Active Participation By Communities

Just as a non-participating service provider might get a valuable referral from GDI Solutions for free simply because that firm has the right professional capabilities to meet the needs of a particular investor, it is possible that areas which only participate in the free GUIDE Network Survey service may get valuable referrals for nothing.

Indeed, as this website proves, we already know how to track down most economic development organizations in the world very quickly and efficiently whenever we need to reach them for an investor.  We have now made it quite easy for anyone else to do this, which is likely to prove to be a valuable tool for many professional advisors, too. 

Some locations may be comparatively unlikely to ever attract major investment projects, and therefore might expect few or infrequent benefits from any greater level of participation in these services than perhaps the GUIDE Area Profile (so that we at least have somebody designated to stay very familiar with their area and alert for relevant opportunities, in case they arise).

That's a judgment call for each area representative to make.  We don't want anyone to waste their money, because we want all participants to be satisfied, at whatever level of participation they may choose as appropriate to their interests.  We want to deliver high value for the investment in our work as we support executives with major projects.

This is not like buying an advertisement and hoping that somebody will notice it and respond or perhaps be influenced by it someday.  It's not like investing in a PR campaign, either, or going to a few trade shows, or doing a lot of promotional mailings or telemarketing calls.

The focus of GDI Solutions is to develop ongoing relationships with top executives who are directly responsible for major investment projects, and to introduce them to relevant area representatives, service providers, and information sources to support their project planning.

What is the value of attracting a single major project?  What is the cost of reaching and attracting such investors by other means?  What has been the track record of other approaches?

That is a judgment call for area representatives to make according to their own situation.  This service isn't intended to replace the other promotional efforts of area representatives.  It is intended to help make them more effective, with a focus on finding the larger project opportunities which are generally more difficult for individual area representatives to reach unless the investor was already inclined to consider that location, or was steered in that direction by consultants.

The bottom line is pretty simple.  Participation by more areas, and for more services, will enable GDI Solutions to make the necessary investments in the professional staff, research work, and relationship development activities to reach more major investors and provide them with better services, and thereby make more valuable introductions for the benefit of all participants in the process.

Without such investment, the market reach and services will necessarily remain very limited.  It takes a team of very experienced professionals with strong marketing and research resources behind them, as well as extensive networks of contacts, to do this work effectively.  It takes a lot of resources to build up such a service, but the relationship development work to create a more efficient direct investment market should deliver high value over time.

As a shared service, the objective is to drive down the cost for all participants over time by achieving greater efficiencies and spreading the costs over more participants.

By the project-oriented nature of this niche, some participants will benefit more than others in any given interval of time.  It is impossible to predict in advance where investment projects will go, because such decisions will be driven by each company and market forces. 

The concept behind GDI Solutions, however, is that a "rising tide raises all boats".  A more efficient and effective process to connect investors, investment services, and investment alternatives should produce better outcomes for all active participants in that market.
